What is the weather of Lima and what kind of accomodation we can use in Lima
When you start your trip to Peru, you usually stay in Lima for a day or two before going to Ica, Nazca, or Cusco.
Even if you are staying in Lima for a short period of time, better weather and comfortable accommodation can help you start your long journey in South America in a pleasant way.
In this post, we will look at the weather and accommodations in Lima.
1. Weather of Lima
Lima has four seasons: spring, summer, fall and winter. However, it seems that each season is not clearly different like in South Korea.
Since it is located in the southern hemisphere, September-December is in spring, December-March is summer, and March-June is autumn and June-September is winter.
Personally, it's like four months of cloudy and chilly weather, four months of clear and hot skies, and four months in the middle.
A. Temperature
The coldest month in Lima is August. The average low temperature is around 15℃ and during the day it is around 19℃. Compared to winter in Korea, the temperature is not very low, but the wind blows a lot, and homes are not well equipped with heating facilities, so it feels chilly.
The hottest month in Lima is February. The average high temperature is 27℃ and at dawn it is around 20℃. Compared to summer in Korea, the temperature is not high, but the humidity is high so it make us to feel muggy.
B. Precipitation
Lima doesn't rain much. On average, even if it rains, it is so weak that you don't need an umbrella and fall in a short time.
However, as the recent global climate change, Lima often experiences more rain than usual.
Rain in Lima won't disrupt your schedule.
C. Water temperature
Lima faces the Pacific Ocean to the west. From Miraflores or Barranco, you can take a walk, paragliding, or surfing in this magnificent sea.
The temperature of the coastal waters adjacent to Lima varies significantly from year to year. The average temperature from January to March in the summer season is over 21℃, and from July to November in the winter season, the average temperature is around 18℃. The difference of 3℃ in water temperature is very large.
You can experience surfing, but it is better to use a dry suit even in summer.
Apart from the above general weather information, Miraflores, where many people stay, is close to the sea, so it would be nice to know that there may be more clouds and foggy.
Personally, I think that the best time to travel to Lima is from March to August, when the weather is clear and the rainfall is low, which is also my favorite period.
2. Accomodations in Lima
A. Guest House
This is a popular accommodation type for those who are backpacking or looking for cheap accommodation in South America. There are Korean guesthouses too. If you are not comfortable with speaking Spanish or English, it is a good option to stay in Korean guesthouse to get trveling informations in Korean.
If you're staying in Lima for a short period of time, you'll be comfortable staying in the Miraflores area, which is safe for security and easy to access to other areas. Among them, it's best to get it near the landmark 'Parque J.F Kennedy'.
One of them is 'Pariwana Hostel Lima'. It's right and in front of the park, so it's great for a walk, and it's convenient to go to the beach or to Barranco. However, since mixed dormitories are also operated, it is recommended to check in advance and make a reservation.
B. Hotel
Tourism is a big part of the Peruvian economy, and Lima is the starting point of the trip in Peru or Latin America, so there are many famous hotel chains and small and medium sized hotels. If you are traveling with family or are uncomfortable spending time with strangers, i recommend you to use the hotel.
The price of the hotel is also slightly lagging compared to Southeast Asia for 3 and 4 stars, but it seems to be similar in terms of price.
For those who are staying for a short time, 'the JW Marriott Hotel' is conveniently located for easy coastal walks.
C. AirBnB
This method can be used if you have a large group of people or want to spend time with the locals.
This is a cheaper and more convenient method for long stays. You can rent the entire house using AirBnB, which we use a lot, or rent one room in which you live with the local host.
The advantage of using the accommodation sharing service is that you can use a more spacious space, and if you rent alone, you can spend a private time.
You can also cook yourself, so it can help you eat Korean food or save food expenses.
So far, we have looked for about the weather and accommodation in Lima.
The best time to travel to Lima is from March to August.
However, if you want to travel to different cities in Peru and travel to other neighboring countries together, it would be a good idea to start your trip in Lima earlier in January to February, taking into account the weather in different regions.
