The places where you should visit in Lima

In this post, we'll share some of the best places to visit while staying in Lima.

Traveler Spotlight places

A. Centro Historico de Lima

This is a must visit place in Lima. Located in the old downtown of Lima.

The 'Armas plaza de Lima' is surrounded by the main attractions of Lima, including the Presidential Palace, Lima Cathedral, San Pedro Cathedral and Chinatown. Downtown of Lima has preserved colonial buildings and it is well protected.

In 1988, Unesco declared the Convent of San Francisco and later in 1991 it was extended to the historic center of Lima as a World Heritage Site.

These buildings are giving it a feeling of being in Europe.

Armas Plaza can be thought of as a meeting square located in the center of each city. There are many restaurants and shops around this square.

Armas Plaza de Lima

The Armas Plaza of Lima is located in the old town, so it's a good idea to visit during the day and refrain from visiting during the night as the security is poor.

There are many large and small cathedrals and museums around the Armas Plaza of Lima.

a. Presidential Palace(대통령궁)

The presidential palace is located on the north side of the Armas Plaza of Lima.

This is the official residence of the President. Every day, the guards take turns at 12:00 noon.
This presidential palace was first built in 1535 and recently renovated in the 1930s.
Recently in a week, three Peruvian presidents have changed. Due to unstable security, many police and soldiers reside around the area now.
It is considered safe during the day if there are no specific protests, but it's always a good idea to keep your belongings well.

b. Cathedral of Lima

The Cathedral of Lima is a Roman Catholic cathedral. The cathedral is quite large and well preserved.

With most cathedrals, there are three large entrances in the front facade. The main or central door is called the Portada del Perdón or the "gate of forgiveness". Above the door is the Peruvian seal and the phrase "Plus Ultra", not the Lima crest.

There is a catacombs in the basement of the Cathedral of Lima, and you can see numerous white remains and coffins enshrined.

There is also the tomb of Francisco Pizarro, the Spanish conqueror.

When I first visited it, it was very surprising to see the chapel and the tomb in the basement in the cathedral.

c. Iglesia de San Pedro

The 'Iglesia de San Pedro' is located southeast of Plaza de Armas. The church was completed in 1638 and has been preserved in 1991 as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and designated as the Historic District of Lima.

The interior of San Pedro Church is decorated with more refined sculptures and paintings, and there are many golden interiors giving it a gorgeous feel.

It's well worth a visit as it feels a lot different from Lima Cathedral.

d. Barrio Chino(China Town)

Lima also has Chinatown, which can be found in any country you visit.

Although it is not large, you can feel a little of China in Europe. You can enjoy Chinese duck or dimsum dishes, and there is also a chifa buffet restaurant.

However, the quality of the food is a little insufficient to feel satisfaction.

It is located in the old town of Lima, so it is convenient to visit if you have time, but if you don't have time, you don't need to visit it.

B. Mira flores

If you have explored the old town of Lima, you can also take a stroll through the morden town, which is the heart of the new Lima and gives you a sense of the stylish city. If you are staying in Lima, staying in this area is convenient and safe.

a. Parque Kennedy (Parque Central de Miraflores)

It is the main park of Miraflores and Kennedy Park that was also introduced in the TV programme many times. It is also called 'Cat Park' because there are many street cats. It is a park where people walking through the park and people who come to play with children can harmonize and have a peaceful time.

There are many things to do in the surrounding area, from fast food to specialty restaurants and bars. Small flea markets are also held at night, so it's a good idea to visit after dinner.

b. Miraflores coastalside

When you come out of Miraflores towards the coast, there are many parks along the coastal road, so it is good for a walk.

If you visit the old town of Lima and take a look towards Miraflores Coastal Park, you can really feel a different Lima.

Around the coastal park, you can forget about the idea of South America for a moment, such as stylish buildings, apartments, tennis courts, promenades, and cafes with a view of the sea built along the coastal cliffs.

Down the coastal cliffs, you'll find surfers and instructors along the beach. If you are visiting in the summer, you may want to enjoy surfing.

After exploring the coastal park, you can relax with dinner or a light beer at the complex shopping mall Larcomar.

C. Huaca Pucllana

In the heart of Miraflores, you can see Peru's old historic sites.

It is a huge pyramid made of clay as the site of the Wari Culture that flourished between 200 and 700 AD. Relics used at the time were also found in the pyramid. Pyramid viewing can be conducted in groups with a guide and is conducted in English or Spanish.

Ancient ruins located in the heart of a sophisticated city center, such as Korea's Gyeongbokgung Palace, is a great place to visit to learn about Peru's older history, known only to the Inca civilization.

D. Brranco

Barranco, adjacent to Miraflores, can be reached along the coastal road.

Barranco is an area called the Street of Art and is the home and working place of many of Peru's leading artists, musicians, designers and photographers. There are many cute and pretty buildings, and the colorful and unique murals are famous.

There are many pretty cafes in alleys, and there are many clubs, live clubs, and bars where you can feel youthful at night.

Personally, it's good even during the day, but if you visit in the evening and the illuminated Barranco and COVID-19 end, it would be nice to visit clubs, live clubs, and bars.
