Best Activities in Lima
In Lima, the capital of Peru and the gateway to South America, I think some of you may prefer activities that you can enjoy yourself rather than visiting museums, cathedrals and historic sites.
I think that through activities, you can get closer to the local culture and atmosphere. Here are some of the activities you can do during your staying in Lima.
Please check the previous post for 'Where should I Visit in Lima'.
1. Bike Tour
This is an activity which you can ride a bicycle with a guide for several routes. You will have photo time and the guide's friendly explanation of Lima. In Lima, there are many hills, so you can sweat while taking a bike tour, but you can feel refreshed after the tour.
Bike tours can only be rented individually, but rather, I recommend a tour with a guide that is safe and provides additional instructions. However, it may be a little uncomfortable in terms of language because the explanations are mostly in English and Spanish when accompanied by a guide, but we have a Google translation app, so if you use it well. You will be able to use it without any problems.
Bike tours include a short tour of Miraflores and Barranco, There are tours along the coast to the Jesus Hill in the south of Lima, a tour of downtown, and a bicycle tour with a little taste of local fruits and food.
The bike tour is a tour that takes approximately 3 to 5 hours. Prices range from $30 to $60.
If you search Google for Bike tour of Lima, you will find many providers. You can choose a course according to the time of your stay in Lima and the place you want to enjoy by bicycle, and make a reservation.
I'd like to share the listings of the businesses that include a tour that can be enjoyed with local food.

When taking a bike tour, be sure to wear safety equipment and follow the guide's progress carefully to ensure safety.
2. Cooking class
Cooking class is an activity which you can visit the local market with explanations of the ingredients, and also learn about the local culture while learning the local cuisine.
Most of the cooking classes are taught in English and Spanish, so simple language communication must be needed to ensure smooth progress.
The cooking class is mainly divided into two classes, morning and afternoon, and takes about 5-6 hours.
Except for visiting the local market, you can only participate in the cooking class. Personally, visiting the local market together can be a more unique activity.
Also, since ceviche is the most popular dish in Peru, I think a class that includes ceviche cuisine is also a good idea.
Cooking classes are also available on Google, Tripadvisor and Airbnb.
The price of the cooking class is about $100, and it varies slightly from company to company, so you can decide depending on the time and place you are staying.
Sites that offer products that include local market visits are shared below.

3. Surfing
In Korea, surfing has been gaining popularity recently in the East Coast and Jeju Island. Looking at my friends' Instagram, it seems that the recently opened artificial surfing site, where you can enjoy surfing even in December, is also popular.
Lima is also very popular for surfing. There are many famous surfing spots all over Peru, but Lima's offshore is a very attractive place, where you can also enjoy surfing.
A number of surfing companies await you when you reach the shore by walking from Miraflores and Barranco. As you get closer to the shore, you can also meet people who are soliciting.
It is a must-try activity for tourists visiting in summer rather than in winter.
It's not a big problem if you're not good at swimming, but if you're really afraid of the water, you might get drowned and panic, so it's good to enjoy it with your eyes only.
Several surfing programs can be also searched on all travel-related portals such as Instagram, Facebook, Tripadvisor and Airbnb. You can also go near the beach and get it yourself, but negotiating the price directly on site is a little cheaper than website.
In the case of a company that is introduced as a major advertisement or has a small size such as Instagram, it is usually about 100 soles (≒30 USD), and if you sign a contract directly on site, it is about 60 soles (≒ 18 USD).
It takes about an hour and half to two hours. Usually, you will surf in the sea with the help of an instructor after a 20 minute class on land.
For beginners, the instructor will catch the waves and push the board from behind. For first-timers, it is not easy to get on the board right away. And because surfing is a full-body exercise, it is very difficult to ride for just one hour. If you overdo it, your whole body may feel stiff the next day, so if you have a schedule, don't overdo it and just enjoy it as fun.
